Patch 0.3.5 has just gone live! This patch contains a few balance and QoL changes for Sky Battle, as well as some other changes and bug fixes too.

Sky Battle

Efficient Item Swapping

We have added a neat feature that allows players to instantly equip higher quality items they collect while looting.

When shift clicking an item in a chest or picking up an item from the floor, if it is a greater sword, axe, bow or armor than the one you possess, it will automatically be moved to the slot of your current one. This also means armor will automatically be equipped.

The swapped item will then be placed in your inventory so you can still share it with teammates.

Order of greatness:
  • Weapons - Wood/Gold → Stone → Iron → Diamond → Netherite
  • Armor - Leather → Gold → Chain → Iron → Diamond → Netherite
Then an item with an enchantment is only considered greater than the same material without an enchantment.

Controlling Dropped Items Upon Elimination

Players were dropping a lot of unhelpful items upon being eliminated, these would then clog up inventory space. We will now instead only be dropping useful items upon player eliminations.

Additionally we will be limiting the amount of powerful items that are dropped in order to avoid players getting overpowered amounts of resources.
  • Weapons and Armor - Players will now drop only one of these and only their greatest one.
  • Arrows - Players will now drop 4 arrows max.
  • Snowballs - Players will now drop 16 snowballs max.
  • TNT, Creepers, Cobwebs - Players will now drop 2 of these max each.
  • Orbs, Sparks, Potions - Players will now only drop 1 of each orb, spark and potion they posses.
(Weapon and armor greatness is the same as described in Efficient Item Swapping).

Nerfing Creeper and Cobwebs

The strategy of trapping a player in cobwebs and then surrounding them with creepers has proven to be too effective.

To weaken this strategy Creeper damage has been reduced by 25%.

This new damage value can still result in an instant kill but only if directly in the center of the blast. With this reduction, counter-plays to the strategy will be more effective.

We have also reduced the amount of creeper eggs and cobwebs you get from the loot chests.

Most of the time you will now get 2 eggs instead of 3 and 3 cobwebs instead of 4.

Battle Box

In the Mines map, we've widened the stone bridge at the top of the map to weaken a funky strategy using the gadgeteer kit.

Miscellaneous Changes

  • Fixed an issue that would sometimes cause players to not receive a kit in the first round of Battle Box.
  • For those with the Creator or Contestant rank, entering “disguise mode” will now persist if you disconnect and reconnect to the server.
  • The “Player Head Visibility” setting has been removed due to the performance issues it can cause.
  • The font size for the damage indicators in Sky Battle and Battle Box have been increased so the amount of damage that has been dealt is more visible.
  • The scoreboard in lobbies/games now includes the current time for the server.
  • Using a spark and then killing someone with your empty fist no longer displays a chat message stating that you killed a player using the spark.
  • Clicking on the instance that you are currently in whilst in the Instance Selector GUI no longer displays a “command does not exist error”; it will now teleport you back to spawn.
  • The “activity” and “private messages” settings now have correct icons.

The armor drop change for skybattle concerns me.
I understand clearing out inventory clutter, but dropping only one piece severely limits being able to help your teammates gear up. If someone takes both diamond chestplates and dies before giving one away, one will just cease to exist. The same problem exists with the axes and swords from mid loot. I think a good adjustment would be to make it so chestplates drop 100% of the time since they're rarer, and allow 4 of each highest level of leggings, boots, axes, and swords to drop. Getting 12 pieces of armor dropping maximum will not clutter inventories the same way as before.
