Welcome!
đ Hello and welcome to the very beginning of MCC Islandâs journey! đ
I wanted to make this post to explain a little about whatâs coming in the next few months, and why weâre launching with a Closed Beta (and how it works!). Itâs also a chance to talk about MCC Islandâs development and hopefully set some expectations for it too!
Itâs actually really difficult to create a Minecraft server network, who knew??? đ©
MCC Islandâs concept started all the way back in June 2020, and development then began 2 months later in August. So weâve been working on this for 2 years now and weâre incredibly excited to finally let people play it!
What to expect
As MCC Island is being built as a âlive serviceâ, youâll see that weâll be launching with the very groundwork of what we want the experience to be. Weâll be dropping some articles in the coming weeks explaining all the features and games weâre launching with in detail.
We have a TON of awesome ideas and plans to really build MCCI into one of the coolest online Minecraft experiences, and weâll be constantly working on those features over time. You may even see some of those ideas hinted at throughout the server, but with a nice âComing Soonâ message slapped on.
But, for Closed Beta, our first priority was to build a basic mini-game network experience that was fun to play and had longevity from the get-go, and we hope to have achieved just that đ
Closed Beta will launch with a total of 4 games, and over time we hope to add many more from the MCC roster. We also have many plans for some unique games exclusive to MCCI too, so expect MORE than just MCC games! Youâll also have a full hands on with things like our Quest system, the early implementation of the Faction system, and the in-depth Cosmetic Crafting and Customisation system (WHICH IS AWESOME BY THE WAY).
So, if you want to eventually see a game or a feature on MCC Island, well these forums are the place to discuss and share it!
Why a Closed Beta?
Itâs kinda because weâre really scared. Do you have any idea how large the MCC community has gotten?? We know for a fact that weâre not going to be able to support ALL those players whoâd like to play right away. Weâd actually explode. Itâs not an easy task to support thousands of players, as you need the hardware and the player moderation team to be able to support it, and we need time to be able to grow into that. A Closed Beta allows us to put some control on the total player-base there, sort of like a tap.
Itâs also because weâd really like to test some of our progression systems and other elements of the server before we fully decide to release with those gameplay decisions. So of course (and there will be plenty of warnings!) you can expect a few progression wipes to occur throughout the Closed Beta - a wipe of XP and coins etc. Once weâre happy with everything, weâll go ahead and release into Open Beta, from there onwards there wonât be anymore wipes!
â ïž Note: You will keep all purchases you make through the Webstore. None of that stuff gets wiped, so donât worry!
How does Closed Beta work?
To put it simply; Closed Beta is invite only. You will only be able to access it if you are given a ticket. There will be two types of invite tickets; the Admission Ticket, and the Fast Pass ticket.
We will be randomly sending admission tickets (for free!) in waves of limited amounts to users who have signed up to the MCC mailing list, and weâll keep sending more waves of tickets when we feel we can support more player slots. An admission ticket will give you one free access slot to the Closed Beta.
As we donât know how many players will actually respond to those invites, we will have a server queue system in place so that we never overflow on players that we canât support slots for. So if the Closed Beta is particularly busy at any point, you can expect that there may be server queues to get in (and donât worry, once youâre in, disconnects have a grace period for you to log back in!)
At the same time, weâll be launching a Webstore where players will be able to purchase the Fast Pass tickets (These may be in limited amounts, as to not inflate queue times too quickly).
Not only will Fast Pass tickets give you an instant ticket to the server, but if the server is full, it will allow you to queue into the Fast Pass server queue which will move a little bit quicker than the Admission queue.
With this method, we are able to allow both free users, and users who wish to support our server costs to play, so everybody wins! đ
If you'd like to sign up to be included in the admission ticket giveaways, then you can sign up to our newsletter here.
Pls support us? đ„ș
Of course, weâve been producing MCC for 3 years now, and with 2 years of development on MCC Island, weâve accrued quite a few bills to pay! From here on out, youâll start to see some monetisation elements being introduced into the MCC Ecosystem (Weâve got to make money somehow! đ°), but itâs our top priority to ensure that we always do it in the right way and that our players feel good about it.
Weâre a super passionate team who love everything about MCC and we hope to be able to keep doing it and growing it in the years to come, and any funding that we receive from the player-base helps us run it for longer, and to grow the team working on it đ
Throughout the Beta, any purchases on the Webstore will be rewarded with some cool unique Beta exclusives, and donât worry, despite fast passes being limited, weâll ensure that youâll be able to purchase the exclusives bundle before Beta finishes up!
Thank you so much for reading, see you for Closed Beta in August, and we all canât wait for the future of MCC! đ„ł
