MCC Island Closed Beta explained

Welcome!

🎉 Hello and welcome to the very beginning of MCC Island’s journey! 🎉

I wanted to make this post to explain a little about what’s coming in the next few months, and why we’re launching with a Closed Beta (and how it works!). It’s also a chance to talk about MCC Island’s development and hopefully set some expectations for it too!

It’s actually really difficult to create a Minecraft server network, who knew??? 😩

MCC Island’s concept started all the way back in June 2020, and development then began 2 months later in August. So we’ve been working on this for 2 years now and we’re incredibly excited to finally let people play it!

What to expect

Build-Mart-Express-1.jpg

As MCC Island is being built as a ‘live service’, you’ll see that we’ll be launching with the very groundwork of what we want the experience to be. We’ll be dropping some articles in the coming weeks explaining all the features and games we’re launching with in detail.

We have a TON of awesome ideas and plans to really build MCCI into one of the coolest online Minecraft experiences, and we’ll be constantly working on those features over time. You may even see some of those ideas hinted at throughout the server, but with a nice ‘Coming Soon’ message slapped on.

But, for Closed Beta, our first priority was to build a basic mini-game network experience that was fun to play and had longevity from the get-go, and we hope to have achieved just that 🙂

Closed Beta will launch with a total of 4 games, and over time we hope to add many more from the MCC roster. We also have many plans for some unique games exclusive to MCCI too, so expect MORE than just MCC games! You’ll also have a full hands on with things like our Quest system, the early implementation of the Faction system, and the in-depth Cosmetic Crafting and Customisation system (WHICH IS AWESOME BY THE WAY).

So, if you want to eventually see a game or a feature on MCC Island, well these forums are the place to discuss and share it!

Why a Closed Beta?

Battle-Box-1.jpg

It’s kinda because we’re really scared. Do you have any idea how large the MCC community has gotten?? We know for a fact that we’re not going to be able to support ALL those players who’d like to play right away. We’d actually explode. It’s not an easy task to support thousands of players, as you need the hardware and the player moderation team to be able to support it, and we need time to be able to grow into that. A Closed Beta allows us to put some control on the total player-base there, sort of like a tap.

It’s also because we’d really like to test some of our progression systems and other elements of the server before we fully decide to release with those gameplay decisions. So of course (and there will be plenty of warnings!) you can expect a few progression wipes to occur throughout the Closed Beta - a wipe of XP and coins etc. Once we’re happy with everything, we’ll go ahead and release into Open Beta, from there onwards there won’t be anymore wipes!

⚠️ Note: You will keep all purchases you make through the Webstore. None of that stuff gets wiped, so don’t worry!

How does Closed Beta work?

To put it simply; Closed Beta is invite only. You will only be able to access it if you are given a ticket. There will be two types of invite tickets; the Admission Ticket, and the Fast Pass ticket.

We will be randomly sending admission tickets (for free!) in waves of limited amounts to users who have signed up to the MCC mailing list, and we’ll keep sending more waves of tickets when we feel we can support more player slots. An admission ticket will give you one free access slot to the Closed Beta.

As we don’t know how many players will actually respond to those invites, we will have a server queue system in place so that we never overflow on players that we can’t support slots for. So if the Closed Beta is particularly busy at any point, you can expect that there may be server queues to get in (and don’t worry, once you’re in, disconnects have a grace period for you to log back in!)

At the same time, we’ll be launching a Webstore where players will be able to purchase the Fast Pass tickets (These may be in limited amounts, as to not inflate queue times too quickly).

Not only will Fast Pass tickets give you an instant ticket to the server, but if the server is full, it will allow you to queue into the Fast Pass server queue which will move a little bit quicker than the Admission queue.

With this method, we are able to allow both free users, and users who wish to support our server costs to play, so everybody wins! 🙂

If you'd like to sign up to be included in the admission ticket giveaways, then you can sign up to our newsletter here.

Of course, we’ve been producing MCC for 3 years now, and with 2 years of development on MCC Island, we’ve accrued quite a few bills to pay! From here on out, you’ll start to see some monetisation elements being introduced into the MCC Ecosystem (We’ve got to make money somehow! 💰), but it’s our top priority to ensure that we always do it in the right way and that our players feel good about it.

We’re a super passionate team who love everything about MCC and we hope to be able to keep doing it and growing it in the years to come, and any funding that we receive from the player-base helps us run it for longer, and to grow the team working on it 🙂

Throughout the Beta, any purchases on the Webstore will be rewarded with some cool unique Beta exclusives, and don’t worry, despite fast passes being limited, we’ll ensure that you’ll be able to purchase the exclusives bundle before Beta finishes up!

Thank you so much for reading, see you for Closed Beta in August, and we all can’t wait for the future of MCC! 🥳
